Of course, the reason is a selfish one: this is for my benefit, in my quest for wisdom and understanding, but I make it available in hopes that it will be useful to someone.

Without going into too much depth here, I think that fiction is very important. As a way of understanding ourselves and one another, I think that the fiction we create and consume is as valuable as our actions in the real world. As such, I think that it's important to understand how creative works--literature, film, cartoons, video games, and so forth--come about. Many works show a great deal of originality, but many more show much more adaptation of and response to what has come before. In this blog, I hope to, as I review films, discover and show the connections between them, and how they have influenced one another as well as other media. In pursuit of this goal, I'll try to review films both new and old, from a variety of genres.

With any luck, I'll learn something.
